The Architect’s Choice: Gauteng’s Top 10 Luxury Venues

A Floral Designer’s Perspective on Visual Legacy

By Veld Blom·Gauteng, South Africa

Choosing a venue is the first step in defining your wedding’s visual legacy. As a floral designer and creative director, I don’t just see floor plans; I see a canvas of light, texture, and scale. In this edit, I’m sharing the ten Gauteng venues that offer the most profound architectural foundations for a “refined organic” aesthetic.

01

The Glass Marquee at Shepstone Gardens

Mountain View, Johannesburg

Modern-Organic
European-style glass marquee and stone architecture at Shepstone Gardens for luxury weddings.

The Glass Marquee is a masterpiece of light and heritage. Its intricate stonework and expansive glass panels create a “secret garden” atmosphere that feels both regal and intimate. From a design perspective, the verticality of the glass allows us to play with height, creating installations that seem to float between the garden and the sky.

When designing for Shepstone, we lean into the “Modern-Organic” aesthetic. The venue’s natural greenery is already so lush that our goal is to add layers of intentionality—using sculptural arrangements and delicate textures that complement, rather than compete with, the iconic 18th-century stone architecture.

02

The Greenhouse Café at Rosemary Hill

Pretoria East

Industrial-Meets-Organic
Greenhouse Café at Rosemary Hill featuring industrial glass and steel architecture in a garden setting.

The Greenhouse Café is the epitome of “Industrial-Meets-Organic.” With its raw steel beams and floor-to-ceiling glass, it offers a minimalist structure that celebrates the surrounding farmland. It’s a space that breathes, allowing natural light to dictate the mood of the ceremony from golden hour through twilight.

For florals, this venue is a dream for “Visual Architects.” We love utilizing the overhead beams for massive, cascading greenery installations. Because the space is so neutral, it allows for bold color palettes or sophisticated, monochromatic white-and-greenery designs to stand out with striking clarity.

03

Oakfield Farm

Muldersdrift

Sustainable Luxury
Classic garden wedding venue at Oakfield Farm with white stables and manicured lawns.

Oakfield Farm is a staple of timeless elegance in Muldersdrift. It offers a variety of spaces, but its true strength lies in its ability to feel like a private estate. The manicured gardens and shaded groves provide a classic backdrop that feels grounded in South African heritage.

Our floral strategy here is often about “Sustainable Luxury.” We focus on creating a seamless flow from the outdoor ceremony spots to the reception halls, using floral “pathways” that guide guests through the experience. It’s a venue that rewards classic, abundant arrangements and soft, romantic textures.

04

Inimitable

Muldersdrift

Architectural Florals
Modern glass wedding venue at Inimitable Muldersdrift with views of the Zwartkop mountains.

Inimitable is exactly what the name suggests—unrivaled in its modern, high-fashion approach to weddings. The sleek lines and dramatic views of the Zwartkop mountains require a design that is equally bold. It is a venue built for the bride who wants a sophisticated, “editorial” look.

In this space, we focus on “Architectural Florals.” We use the venue’s clean geometry as a guide, creating structured yet organic pieces that mirror the grand scale of the window frames. It’s a location where “less is more,” provided that the “less” is incredibly high-impact and expertly placed.

05

Irene Country Hotel

Centurion

Nature-Led Aesthetics
Lakeside wedding venue at Irene Country Hotel featuring oak trees and historic charm.

Irene Country Hotel offers a sense of “Old World” charm and tranquility that is rare to find so close to the city. The oak-lined lanes and lake views create a nostalgic, meadow-like atmosphere. It’s perfect for couples who want their wedding to feel like a sophisticated escape.

Designing for Irene is about “Nature-Led Aesthetics.” We often draw inspiration from the surrounding forest, using “Refined Organic” textures like wild grasses and local blooms. The goal is to make the floral decor feel like it grew naturally out of the landscape, enhancing the hotel’s peaceful, historic vibe.

06

Ground The Venue

Muldersdrift

Industrial Greenhouse
Industrial greenhouse wedding venue at Ground Muldersdrift with pecan nut forest views.

Ground is a masterclass in “Industrial Greenhouse” design. Set within a pecan nut forest, it balances the hard lines of black steel and concrete with the soft, dappled light of the trees. It is a venue that feels incredibly authentic and “unprocessed.”

Our work at Ground focuses on synergy. We treat the industrial framework as a primary element, rigging massive floral chandeliers and Edison bulbs directly into the structure. This multi-layered approach ensures the reception space feels intimate and warm, regardless of its grand scale.

07

Avianto

Muldersdrift

Classical Luxury
European-style Tuscan wedding chapel and bell tower at Avianto Muldersdrift.

Avianto transports guests to a European village with its Tuscan-style architecture and tiered stone gardens. The iconic chapel and bell tower provide a dramatic focal point that is steeped in symmetry and classical beauty.

At Avianto, we lean into “Classical Luxury.” We use the various stone urns and water features as anchors for our designs. Whether it’s climbing roses on the bell tower or lush arrangements reflected in the lily pond, the goal is to enhance the venue’s existing European flair with a modern, organic twist.

08

Lace and Timber

Pretoria East

Sculptural Florals
Industrial-chic forest chapel at Lace on Timber Pretoria with vaulted glass ceilings.

Lace and Timber is the perfect “blank canvas” for the modern minimalist. Its white-washed walls and vaulted glass ceilings create an airy, light-filled environment that is incredibly versatile. It’s an industrial space that feels surprisingly soft and romantic.

Because the venue is so clean, we use it to showcase “Sculptural Florals.” The high-pitched ceilings are perfect for hanging installations that draw the eye upward, while the neutral palette allows for intricate stationery and gifting details to take center stage alongside the flowers.

09

De Harte

Pretoria East

Contrast & Scale
Modern forest chapel architecture at De Harte Venue Pretoria East with black steel arches.

De Harte offers a sophisticated, gallery-like feel with its bold black arches and white brickwork. It’s a modern forest venue that feels curated and intentional. The way the light interacts with the dark architecture makes it a photographer’s paradise.

When designing for De Harte, we focus on “Contrast and Scale.” We love using the black-framed entrance as a frame for massive floral “portals.” The minimalist backdrop allows us to play with unique textures and unusual floral varieties that might get lost in a more traditional venue.

10

The Lakeside

Tierpoort

Immersive Luxury
Modern glass-gabled wedding pavilion at The Lakeside Tierpoort with panoramic water views.

The Lakeside is all about grand horizons and serene reflections. The glass-gabled pavilion sits perfectly on the water’s edge, offering a 360-degree view of the Tierpoort landscape. It’s a venue that feels expansive and “profound.”

Our design strategy here is “Immersive Luxury.” We use the transparency of the building to our advantage, creating designs that bridge the gap between the interior and the lake outside. It’s a space where we can truly execute a “Triple-Threat” vision—integrating flowers, stationery, and gifting into one cohesive, waterfront experience.
